Minneapolis school board race takes shape

Every open seat for the Minneapolis school board will be a contested race this November.

Despite not receiving the DFL endorsement in April, both Tracine Asberry and Josh Reimnitz decided to run. They are currently on the school board.

In announcing her candidacy Asberry said she was students, families and teacher “count on my leadership.”

“They’ve told me they value my strong, independent voice and continuous push for increased accountability, transparency, equity, community engagement, and attention to student needs,” she said.

Reimnitz will face Bob Walser for the District 4 seat which represents downtown ,the Isles neighborhoos and Bryan Mawr.

Asberry is running against Ira Jourdain for District 6 in Southwest Minneapolis. Jourdain unsuccessful ran for the district-wide seat in 2014.

In District 2, the city’s North Side, Kimberly Caprini and Kerry Jo Felder are on the ballot. Lastly, Kim Ellison, another incumbent, and Doug Mann are vying for a district-wide seat.
