Recap of the North Minneapolis candidate meet-and-greet

On Thursday September 22nd, the first Animate the Race community forum was held at HWhite Mensroom.

All of the MPS School Board candidates were invited, and several stopped by and were asked questions by parents and people interested in the upcoming election.

The candidates in attendance were Kerry Joe Fielder and Kimberly Caprini (District 2 candidates); Bob Walser and Josh Reimnitz (District 4 candidates); Tracine Asbury (District 6 candidate), and Doug Mann (Citywide candidate).

The candidates who did not attend were Ira Jourdain (District 6 candidate) and Kim Ellison (Citywide candidate)

The candidates who attended were asked about how they would tackle the achievement gap in Minneapolis, what they would do to make sure our children were safe from police in schools, and several other questions that concern our communities. White candidates were asked how they challenged their White privilege.

I was really pleased that they all came out and were open and honest about their plans to better the schools for everyone. I’m really looking forward to the next event where they can get more in depth about their solutions to one of our greatest resources–the children–who are our future.
